Security Camera Installation

The City Heights Business Association, in cooperation with the San Diego Police Department, devised a program of public right of way cameras to help law enforcement identify and prevent crime.

Multiple locations were identified for installation and eight video cameras and accompanying equipment were purchased and installed in 2006 to increase police presence during an era of diminishing police budgets.

Police officers assigned to light duty monitor the video camera monitors and have the authority to order patrol officers in the area to make an arrest. Cameras were placed in cooperation with resident planning groups along business corridors. The cameras allowed the Mid-City Police Substation to redeploy more officers in residential areas.

The police department continues to administer the program.
